    Resources for Universal Housing Design

Universal design in housing is becoming more popular. Most people want more comfort in their homes. Opening doors with arms full of groceries is as difficult at 30 as it is at 70. More people are living with disabilities. People live longer than they used to. People now realize that they need homes that will grow old with them. And younger people want a home that will take care of them when they are sick or injured.  That's where universal design comes in.

The following are some resources that will assist people seeking information about universal design:

Center for Inclusive Design and Environmental Access

The IDEA Center (Center for Inclusive Design and Environmental Access) at the University of Buffalo is a leader in the field of Visitability, Universal Design, and home modification. Read more information about the IDEA Center.

    Supportive Housing and Home Modification

The National Resource Center on Supportive Housing and Home Modification is headquartered at the University of Southern California. It is a non-profit organization dedicated to promote aging in place and independent living for persons of all ages and abilities. It is a wealth of information for developers who want to build accessible and supportive housing that promotes healthy, independent living. It is also a resource center for community-based care systems, housing programs, and health services organizations.
